The Author Waratah Rose Gillespie is an intrepid, independent and compassionate grandmother now in her sixties, who combines her reporting skills with her legal knowledge as she documents the suffering of the innocent people of Iraq. No stranger to danger, she was a political prisoner in Fiji following General Rabuka's first military coup, and later braved the military blockade of Bougainville to bring in much needed medicines to the besieged people there. Her life of active support for justice and human rights spans more than forty years, beginning with a protest against the now discredited "White Australia" policy. As a lawyer of mixed Aboriginal and European descent, she is acutely aware of the injustices perpetrated against her people, and the pervasive presence of an invader mentality, which numbs any sense of wrongdoing in invading a country that is inhabited a people of a different race.
